Actions speak louder than words;
QEB Appeal
The Community Campaign has been at the forefront of campaigning to
ensure that the QEB development does not have an adverse impact on the
existing community. We are particularly concerned about the effective
closure of the Bourley Road car park, the impact of traffic on
our
local roads & the lack of places in local schools. In 2007 Cllr.
James Radley was a leading member of the QEB
Campaign’s core team representing local people at the Public Inquiry.
James took 6 weeks off work to attend the appeal and to be on hand to
cross examine the developer’s witnesses.
James also prepared key sections of the campaign’s evidence and
presented these to the Inquiry, handling the detailed cross examination
which followed. The final decision on the QEB is expected to be
announced by the Government in early May.
Farnborough Aerodrome
CCH Councillors are amongst the most active members of the Farnborough
Aerodrome Consultative Committee, challenging TAG (the owners of the
airport) on issues of concern to the majority of local residents. At
the same time the CCH recognises that TAG are a business and are here
to stay. We believe that it is important to work with TAG to ensure the
best possible outcome for local residents. The recent disappointment
over weekend flying shows how important it is to keep up the pressure
to ensure that local concerns are not swept aside by the planning
process.
This is critically important as the spectre of dramatically increased
flying looms ever more real.
Support for Parish Councils
The Community Campaign takes an active role in supporting both of the
local parish councils in the Crondall ward. CCH Councillors are regular
attendees of parish council meetings. The CCH feel that it is important
that Hart District listens to the parishes and that the parish councils
are kept informed about what is happening at a district level. The
Community Campaign’s belief in the importance of parish councils in
representing the interests of people at a local community level led us
to fight successfully for parishes for the unparished area – so
bringing equality to the way that local services are funded across the
district.
From the outset, the Community Campaign has recognised that Fleet &
Church Crookham have been disadvantaged by not having Parish Councils.
This is a disparity that the main parties had been content to keep. We
promised that we would bring about the formation of parishes to allow
local people more control over how their Council Tax is spent on local
amenities. It has been a long fight but the process of setting up this
parish is now under way. This process will give local people a strong
voice along with the other parishes.
Road Improvements
The Community Campaign where shocked and angered to learn that money
which has been set aside for improving the A287 junction and to improve
pedestrian access between Crookham Village & Dogmersfield could be
diverted to projects in Fleet town centre. The CCH were first to alert
the local Parish Councils to this risk and have been at the forefront
of fighting to ensure that Hampshire keep these important local
projects on the agenda.
Flooding
Following the flash floods of 20th July 2007, John Bennison (CCH
Councillor for the Crondall ward) has been working in conjunction with
Crondall Parish Council to persuade the various agencies involved to
improve & properly maintain drainage through the lower lying areas
of the village.
